Our first official SURJ trip to the border at Tijuana to volunteer with Al Otro Lado (AOL) is happening Sunday, November 10! There are seven of us going including 4 fluent Spanish speakers. Please help support AOL's amazing work with a donation.
Al Otro Lado is a bi-national, direct legal services organization serving indigent migrants, deportees and refugees. Relying heavily on volunteers, AOL’s Border Rights Project, known as “The Most Loving Place in Tijuana,” works to protect the familial and individual rights of migrants and record human rights violations committed against asylum-seekers. In the midst of a devastating humanitarian crisis, the atmosphere at AOL is empowering, caring, and all-embracing of everyone who walks in the door.
At AOL's “Know Your Rights” workshops, they provide lunch, diapers, childcare and other basic needs to asylum seekers and their children. The funds we bring will also help with these much needed supplies.
SURJ delegates are self-funded, so 100% of your donation goes directly to Al Otro Lado. We hope to make a substantial contribution to Al Otro Lado's critical work, to the lives of those they work with and to help boost morale in an incredibly difficult environment. Thank you for all you can do.
