This fundraiser was created for disaster relief from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico after Americans witnessed President Donald Trump's lack of respect for the U.S. territory. Although the creator, Adriana Miranda, created the event behind the fundraiser as a joke (See
'Throw Paper Towels At Trump Tower' event on Facebook) she hopes that donations will be seriously considered in spite of the joke.
The donations sent to Mutual Aid Disaster Relief will be used toward:
The Puerto Rico Rebuilds Campaign for autonomous and sustainable infrastructure development in the form of water purification systems and photovoltaic solar arrays.
To assist Sanando Puerto Rico in completing medical care for the most affected communities on the island. Donations will be used to purchase essential medications and medical supplies, fuel, transportation and communication costs.
And finally, toward the Puerto Rico and Caribbean Wishlist on Amazon.com. "This registry is to provide volunteers and community residents in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean with the supplies necessary to respond and rebuild. This list focuses on essential items to assist with the immediate rebuilding of water and energy systems for communities not receiving equitable assistance. We aim to establish permanent, sustainable systems going forward so that these communities can determine and direct their own recovery efforts and future. The list also includes necessary tools and personal protective equipment to safely continue their work in the hazardous environments of a post-disaster zone. Some medical supplies and responder equipment is also included. Items will be updated as needs are met and new needs are determined."
