The Ethical Area Studies Coalition is committed to using our academic expertise and language proficiency in pursuit of freedom and dignity for all. We pledge not to cooperate with U.S. agencies and departments engaged in gross violations of human rights—in particular, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense/U.S. armed forces. We will resist the weaponization of area studies knowledge and instead utilize our intellectual tools to build a more peaceful, just, and equitable world.
