Families Belong Together- Christian Support Group

Leviticus 19:33 teaches us, "When a foreigner resides with you in your land, you must not oppress him. You must treat the foreigner living among you as native-born and love him as yourself."

On Thursday, June 14th 2018, White House Press Secretary Sanders and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions both used Biblical verses to justify evil policies that are causing THOUSANDS of parents & children to be separated from each other indefinitely on the Southern border of the United States. This is not a petty partisan battle, this is immoral + wrong. Children belong with their parents, period.

Multiple federal agencies are literally ripping babies from their mother’s breast + deporting fathers without returning their infants. That is KIDNAPPING.

If Jesus’s family was to seek legal asylum at our Southern Border- they would be separated, thrown in cages with no clean water and give them no idea when they would be reunited. This is not an exaggeration, and the conditions are actually much worse in some areas.

If you believe yourself to be a Christian, if you've ever worn a WWJD bracelet or gone on a mission trip- THIS is the time to raise your voice.

We CANNOT let a modern day Gestapo force use racist, dehumanizing rhetoric to obscure pre-meditated state violence against families, the vast majority who are devoutly Christian, just like you! They have even been confiscating the parent's rosary beads at the border. It is so shameful and the antithesis of our faith.

We CANNOT let them use our sacred gospel to deny those fleeing extreme poverty, political instability, domestic violence and religious persecution their basic human right to seek asylum in this, a land of immigrants.

We CANNOT forget the indigenous people who welcomed us here, and how our ancestors brought disease, violence, slavery and displacement. Hundreds of years later we are still so lost- how can we forget God's second great commandment, to "love thy neighbor as thyself?"

THIS is our moment to extend God's infinite love and Jesus's righteous compassion to our neighbor or, as Rev Dr. Martin Luther King prophetically said, "America too may go to hell."

Speaking as a lifelong Episcopalian, married to a Catholic with a little girl who loves Jesus- if you are ready to help organize your local congregation or people of faith together to END FAMILY SEPARATION, please sign up here to receive shareable graphics + posters for download, as well as information on a next steps action call to be convened in a few days.
