About

Together We Rise CT: Building Bridges For Justice is a grass roots group of like-minded individuals from the Lower Connecticut River Valley and surrounding areas who believe that “no one is free while others are oppressed.” We came together within two weeks of the 2016 elections. We aim to exemplify solidarity and to work as peaceful advocates for justice. Using tools of open-communication, art, personal testimony, community building, political advocacy, and education we work to address issues of social, economic and environmental justice at the local, state and national levels. Our ultimate goal is to build and strengthen an engaged and egalitarian community, with respect towards all humanity.

Our Weekly Vigil:

Our Weekly Vigil began on November 26, 2016. As of today, July 6, 2019, we have had 137 consecutive vigils. Each week we stand together with our sign above, and bear witness to the ongoing atrocities that the Trump administration and those who enable them. Over the course of our many vigils, most of those who drive by have moved from neutral or Trump supporters to overwhelmingly supporting what we do each week.

Other events:

We have hosted both Women's Marches, March for our Lives, special vigils to promote gun regulation, and special events for Pride Month, Black Lives Matters, Simple Gifts, a banquet that raised $18,000 for an immigrant bail fund, A Celebration of International Human Rights Day, A Science Fair, and special Poetry Read-Ins at which we share the poetry of various groups on our sign.
