Welcome Blanket is a craftivism project that reimagines the length of the proposed US/Mexico border wall (1,994 miles) as an equivalent length of yarn to be made into welcome blankets for refugees and other new immigrants to the United States. With each blanket, the blanket maker(s) encloses a note about her family's immigration story and words of welcome and advice about living in the United States. These blanket packages will be displayed together at the Smart Museum in Chicago in September and then distributed to refuge resettlement groups after the show.
