04/23/18 - Missouri Mondays - Greitens' time is up! Tell Speaker Richardson and your Representative to begin impeachment now!

CALL TO ACTION!

Greitens' time is up!

Tell Speaker Richardson and your Representative to begin impeachment now!

For this week’s Missouri Mondays, Indivisible MO asks that you write or call House Speaker Richardson and your Representative to demand impeachment proceedings for Governor Greitens begin immediately!

Once again this week the Governor of Missouri, Eric Greitens, has made national news headlines for all the wrong reasons.  On Friday, April 20, Governor Greitens was charged with a second felony, this time for computer tampering relating to the misuse of his charity donor list, and he could face up to four years in prison if convicted.  As has been widely reported, the Governor is also facing felony invasion of privacy charges for allegedly taking a nude photo of his mistress without her consent and threatening revenge porn blackmail.  Greitens’ has called the invasion of privacy charges a “witch hunt,” has denounced the House Special Investigative Committee report as lies and is refusing to step down. Greitens’ trial on invasion of privacy charges is set to begin in St. Louis on May 14.

Indivisible MO demands Governor Greitens’ be impeached because:

    • The Governor’s legal matters are distracting our elected officials from doing the job they were sent to Jefferson City to do.  Our state is facing serious problems including budget shortfalls, funding for public education, repairing our roads and infrastructure, taking care of our seniors, and many other critical needs and only a few more weeks left in the Session. Until the Governor resigns or is impeached, our legislators will be distracted from addressing these important issues facing our state. Greitens could even use the power of his signature as a quid pro quo in exchange for support. We cannot allow this to happen!

    • Sworn testimony about Greitens’ abusive and threatening behavior is deeply disturbing and unacceptable for any elected official, especially the Governor.  The allegations against Governor Greitens are shocking and disgraceful.  We should expect nothing less than good moral character, honesty, and integrity from all of our elected officials and especially from the leader of our state. Greitens alleged reprehensible criminal behavior is bringing shame and embarrassment to the office of governor and to Missouri yet he refuses to step down, so we must begin impeachment proceedings now!

    • There are a growing number of Republicans who have joined with Democrats in calling for Governor to resign yet so far he has refused. Legislators who have already called on Greitens to resign include: Kevin Kehoe (Senate Majority Leader), Gina Walsh (Senate Minority Leader), and Gail McCann Beatty (House Minority Floor Leader), Attorney General Josh Hawley, State Auditor Nicole Galloway, and Senator Claire McCaskill.  Even a top Greitens donor, David Humphreys, has also called for his resignation.

    • We deserve a law-abiding governor who values constitutional protections for all Missourians!   The Governor asked to delay the release of the House committee’s report until after his day in court at his upcoming trial, yet would deny the right to a jury trial to other Missourians.  Last year Governor Greitens signed SB 43 into law, which made it easier for employers to discriminate against their employees and weakened Missouri’s human rights laws. This year another bill, SB 578, would give employers the right to force employees into secret arbitration, denying them the right to a jury trial and hiding discrimination or sexual harassment in the workplace.  We deserve leaders who will fight for constitutional protections for all Missourians and not just for themselves when it’s convenient.
