Ask your legislator: Please improve transparency at Virginia's electric co-ops

Join us and a growing group of co-op member-owners across Virginia who are demanding fair treatment from their electric cooperatives. We are proposing the following policies to reform our electric co-ops:

  • Requiring co-ops to open board meetings to their members,
  • Requiring co-ops to post board meeting minutes online, and
  • Reforming co-op board of directors elections for fairness and democracy

This is important because cooperatives in Virginia operate as monopolies with few protections for member-owners. The result has been surprise rate hikes, slow adoption of new technology -- including clean energy options -- and use of member-owner funds for lobbying, even against member interests.

Take action now and email your legislators before the General Assembly session begins on January 12th!
