Scotland is at a crossroads on climate policy. Following news that they were failing to meet their climate targets, the Scottish Government announced plans to scrap Scotland’s 2030 target and replace it with climate measures that fall far short of the action needed.
But two thirds of the Scottish public want action on the climate crisis to remain a top priority for this government. With the Scottish Government set to confirm their policy on oil and gas exploration in coming days, our MSPs need to feel the pressure from us not to weaken their stance on new fossil fuels.
Scientists and experts are clear that we cannot have any more oil & gas to stay within safe climate limits. New oil and gas won’t do anything to improve our energy security or lower our energy bills.
To keep expanding oil & gas would be a disaster for Scotland, and a huge distraction from delivering a Just Transition for workers. The further expansion of oil and gas locks workers in the North East of Scotland into continued insecurity when we could be creating 3 jobs in clean energy for every job in the oil and gas industry.
This is a crucial moment to show MSPs that the Scottish public want an end to new oil & gas.
Send an email to your MSP urging them to hold the Scottish Government to including a presumption against new oil & gas exploration in their Energy Strategy.
