Break the Cycle of Incarceration and Poverty: End the Ban on Food Aid for Returning Citizens

Currently, people released from prison after serving their sentences for drug felonies are banned for life from receiving food assistance. Known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), these programs provide essential assistance to millions struggling with poverty. Without this essential assistance, people coming out of prison are more likely to commit another crime and end up back in prison. This especially affects BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities.

This year, Congress will consider reauthorization for the Farm Bill, within which these programs exist. Encourage you member of Congress to remove the ban!
