We are in the middle of an affordability crisis. Working families and seniors are barely getting by as the cost of health care, food, gas, and electricity rise at a record pace. Instead of working to lower the cost of everyday essentials, Senate Republicans have unveiled their plan to fast-track as much as $140 billion to ICE and Border Patrol – on top of the $170 billion they already gave for immigration detention and deportation last year - with no accountability and no commonsense reforms attached.
Let’s be perfectly clear: ICE and CBP have an enormous budget now and they are using this money to terrorize our communities. For months, ICE has been on a reckless and cruel campaign: separating families, detaining children and babies, making arrests on or near school grounds, illegally entering homes, and even killing U.S. citizens in our streets. Roughly 50 people have died in ICE custody since January 2025 – the most in recorded history.
