[CALL ON STANFORD ADMIN] NEGOTIATE WITH STANFORD HUNGER STRIKERS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE NOW
Starting on Monday, May 12th, 12 Students & 3 Faculty members at Stanford announced an indefinite hunger strike, demanding that Stanford take action on its complicity in the genocide in Gaza. Stanford administration replied to our letter of demand and request to negotiate in good faith with this:
"Dear Students:
I am writing in response to your May 10 communication regarding your plan to begin a hunger strike. The university does not intend to negotiate in response to your demands. We respect the rights of students to express their views in ways within the limits of our time, place, and manner rules. At the same time, we urge students to consider forms of expression that do not jeopardize their health and well-being. If you continue with your hunger strike, we strongly encourage you to take precautions to support your health. The resources of Vaden Health Services and Student Affairs will be available to you in this regard."
Since October 2023, Stanford community members have held over 200 events, from teach-ins, rallies, our first sit-in lasting 120 days, our second sit-in lasting over 40 days, calling on Stanford to divest, a divestment resolution with 74.6% of Graduate students and 72.86% of undergraduate students in support. Stanford doesn't even want to listen to its students and faculty, who are now resorting to the last tactic possible in hopes that Stanford finally takes any action.
Join us in sending an email demanding that Stanford negotiate with Hunger Strikers for Justice in Palestine. We have decided to continue our hunger strike until Stanford negotiates and takes action on our demands.
