Community Solar for All program here in Delaware

We are excited to announce that Senator Stephanie Hansen has introduced Senate Bill 2 to establish a Community Solar for All program here in Delaware. The Sierra Club Delaware Chapter has led the charge, with the League and many other organizations as willing partners, to equitably expand access to solar energy and lower energy costs.About 70% of individuals in the US cannot access solar energy. Often these are low income individuals and those who do not own their home or their roof. Community Solar allows people to purchase a custom amount of energy from a solar project located somewhere other than on their roof. The project could be on a brownfield, a public or private building, over a parking lot, or on non-productive farmland. We still have to get this bill through both the Senate and the House and then on to the Governor, but Sen. Hansen has gotten us off to a great start. She has made sure that strong consumer protections exist, that every project dedicates at least 15% of the energy to low income households, and that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from this clean, affordable, renewable energy.
