Congress: Don’t Cut Paid Leave from the Recovery Bill!

Right now, President Biden and members of Congress are debating what to include in the economic recovery package, and what to leave out. The next few days are the most critical moments in the fight for paid leave--and it’s never been more important to make our voices heard.

Today, 1 in 3 Americans lack access to a single day of paid leave to care for themselves or their loved ones. That’s 113 million people, overwhelmingly women, communities of color, and low-wage working families. 1 in 4 women go back to work 2 weeks after giving birth to a child.

President Biden and leaders in Congress have proposed a new paid leave program that would change that, providing up to 12 weeks of parental, caregiving and personal medical leave to all working people. But now, conservative Democrats like Joe Manchin are trying to cut the package to remove paid family and medical leave entirely. Let’s make sure that nobody in the U.S. has to choose between taking care of their health or their family, and keeping their paycheck.
