Demand 50% Renewable Energy by 2030
After the immense destruction and suffering wrought by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria climate scientists and meteorologists have told us that while global warming didn’t cause this storm, it likely made it worse. Warmer oceans intensify the winds, and put more moisture into the atmosphere, setting the stage for unprecedented flooding, damage and loss of life. Unless we take action to stop putting greenhouse gases into our air, future hurricanes will only become more frequent and more deadly.
In Minnesota, we already get over 20% of our electricity from renewable sources, and we can further lead the way towards building a clean and sustainable future. State Senators Nick Frentz and Karin Housley, and State Representatives Erin Maye Quade and Joe Schomacker authored a bipartisan bill committing Minnesota to raise that number from 20% to 50% by 2030. However, there has been little progress on the bill since it was introduced in February.
Let your voice be heard right now! Write to your state representatives and senators and tell them to support this bill as part of the campaign to combat the climate crisis and demand 50% renewable energy by 2030!
