Demand a Fair Workload and Safety for Support Staff

Your unions are fighting to make your voice heard. In addition to LFTs ongoing fight for your permanent pay raise, we have made great strides in bringing the issues to legislators that teachers and staff have told us impact your quality of life and ability to do your job effectively–workload, discipline, and safety.

On Tuesday, House Education will vote on two critical bills filed by your unions that protect teacher’s rights to a fair workload and provide adequate sick leave for school employees injured while assisting students.

  • ✅SB 205 provides for additional compensation for teachers who work overtime or beyond their regular duties as well as compensates for planning time.

The fact is, our schools are being run on unpaid overtime. Not only are teachers not paid for their work, but valuable time and resources are being taken away from being able to care for their families.

  • ✅SB 213 requires a school employee to receive sick leave for a period up to one year when disabled while providing physical assistance to a student to prevent danger or risk of injury to the student.

Currently, teachers receive up to a full year to recover while support staff only receive up to 90 days. This bill provides the same benefit to support staff who face the same risks as teachers. Together we can ensure all school staff receive the benefits they deserve.
