Demand a Farm Bill that helps families put food on the table

The House is considering the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026―known as the 2026 Farm Bill―and, at a time that many are struggling to put food on the table, it does nothing to reverse the harmful cuts made in the Big Brutal Bill that became law in July.

The Big Brutal Bill cut $187 billion from SNAP―the largest cut in the program's history―and without the restoration of that funding, millions of people will go hungry.

In 2024, 47.9 million people lived in households that were food insecure, and that number will only increase as the impacts of SNAP cuts are felt. More than 3 million people have already lost access to SNAP benefits since enactment of the budget bill last summer as the Trump Administration has used increased “red tape” to make it harder for eligible families to access benefits, along with taking SNAP away from refugees and other legal immigrants, veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and young adults aging out of foster care. And this crisis will only get worse as the historic cuts to SNAP are fully implemented.

None of this is sustainable. As Congress considers a new Farm Bill and/or possible farm relief, they must also focus on helping families facing hunger. An important first step is to answer the call from the bipartisan National Governors Association and ensure all states have more time before imposing additional SNAP costs on their budgets. And ultimately, we must undo historic cuts to our nation’s primary anti-hunger program and prioritize ending hunger.

Congress needs to hear from us now.
