Demand Congress BLOCK the new $20 billion weapons transfer to Israel!

On September 18 Senator Bernie Sanders announced that he will introduce Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block the latest notified arms transfers worth greater than $20 billion to Israel. Tell our Senators and Representatives to support Senator Sanders to block the transfer of weapons that are being used in the mass slaughter of civilians in Gaza.

Congress has the legal right and the moral obligation to block US arms transfers to Israel. Congress regulates the sale and export of defense articles to foreign countries through the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Arms Export Control Act (AECA). Among other provisions, these acts prohibit assistance to any government that engages in a consistent pattern of human rights violations and ban the use of US weaponry in the commission of violations of International Humanitarian Law. The AECA contains a mechanism for Congress to adopt a joint resolution of disapproval for arms sales notified by the President. Upon introduction under the AECA, the Foreign Relations Committee has five days to consider the resolution, after which the sponsors can force a floor vote.

Demand that Senator Warren and Senator Markey co-sponsor the Sanders resolution and urge your Representative to file a companion resolution in the House.
