Please write Roanoke City Council again
Ask the Roanoke City Council to either amend the Evans Spring Plan or to vote NO on adding it to the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
When the Roanoke City Council approved the revised Evans Spring Plan they didn't include an important disclaimer that was in the 2013 Evans Spring Development Plan warning potential developers about the wetlands. It's important for developers to know that there are state and federal laws protecting wetlands and they may not be able to get the necessary permits to be able to develop the land.
If the revised plan was developed it would cause over 70 million gallons of stormwater to flood downtown Roanoke. Hence the state and federal laws preventing that from happening.
Roanoke City is the poorest large city in Virginia. The city needs housing and development to thrive. Developers need transparency so they don't waste their time and money on trying to develop land that isn't developable. It's also unacceptable that the plan's development has upset a Black community who fears that they will be displaced again by another urban renewal project. Learn more here.
