Expand the definition of frontline medical worker to include all SUNY frontline hospital workers

We urge the state Department of Budget to expand the definition of "frontline medical worker" to include all medical worker titles at SUNY's public teaching hospitals. In the 2022-2023 state budget, funding is set aside to provide certain essential frontline health care workers with bonuses.

However, there are a number of stipulations in the program that serve to exclude a large number of frontline workers at SUNY's public teaching hospitals in Brooklyn, Stony Brook and Syracuse from being eligible to receive bonuses.

All medical worker titles at SUNY's teaching hospitals should be included and eligible for bonuses. Limiting who receives the health care worker retention bonus to a list of specific titles denies thousands of workers who continue to fight arm-in-arm against this deadly disease with those who are receiving the bonus.

Frontline workers are heroes, and these bonuses are an important show of support for them and the incredible work they did - and continue to do.
