Our hearts are broken over the millions of birds killed through no fault of their own, in the name of animal agriculture’s reckless greed. As bird flu spreads rapidly at farms across the country, we are doing our best to track each big case and document what we can. And while our grief is palpable, we are committed to exposing the shadowy politics that actually reward factory farms for their immensely bad behavior.

In Wisconsin, Slaughter Free Milwaukee activists and others have helped us investigate a botched attempt to cover up the killing and burial of three million hens at S & R Egg Company that produces 80% of all of the State’s eggs. State ag. officials didn’t learn their lesson in 2015 when they killed millions of birds during the last bird flu outbreak in the very same Jefferson County. Instead, they are protecting S & R Egg, using taxpayer dollars to clean up this company’s mess, brutally kill three million hens through a slow and panful process, and then dump all of these bodies in a mass burial site next to residents who rely on clean well water to survive.

The State announced that bird flu was reported on March 14th and officials keep assuring us that the issue is being conducted “humanely” and “sustainably,” with minimum risk to the environment and nearby residents. We don’t believe them!

We demand that the S & R Egg Company pay for the fiasco they created, not taxpayers!
