Fair Contract for OPEIU L251 AFL-CIO at Sandia National Labs (NTESS)

OPEIU Local 251 AFL-CIO represents over 550 workers at Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their contract expires on September 24, 2024. Sandia National Labs’ is a prestigious asset for US defense, energy, and technology. Sandia National Labs’ was founded during WWII with the Manhattan project which built the world’s first atomic bomb.

These OPEIU L 251 members support Sandia work in administrative capacities including Accounts Payable, Payroll, Classified Work, Purchasing for mission critical lab equipment and supplies. The majority of OPEIU Local 251 members at Sandia National Labs are women of color in New Mexico. Many of these women are single mothers and caregivers to their extended family.

“Exceptional service in the national interest,” is on the Sandia National Labs website. OPEIU Local 251 has represented Sandia National Labs since 1950 and their members have provided that "exceptional service." The Collective Bargaining Agreement includes Wages, Paid Time Off, Benefits, and Working Conditions. Management has proposed several concessions to take away rights in the contract. Meanwhile, Sandia National Lab’s job postings offer “Challenging work with amazing impact that contributes to security, peace, and freedom worldwide.” The workers who directly contribute to these priorities of security, peace, and freedom deserve respect and dignity in a fair collective bargaining agreement.
