Fast Track Signalling Upgrades for Sydney Trains
EcoTransit Sydney as advocate for sustainable economy and environment through public transport urges the NSW Government to prioritise investment into the Sydney Trains Network through the Digital Systems Program (DSP). This program achieves the most cost-effective uplift to capacity for Sydney Trains and can be implemented with minimal disruption to existing services.
The Digital Systems Program (using European Train Control Management Level 2) will enable a train every 2 minutes on the T4 Illawarra Line and T8 Airport Line (at a cost of $800 million compared to billions in converting existing rail lines into Sydney Metro).
Howard Collins (former Sydney Trains Chief Executive) said a digital upgrade of the signalling system would be the "biggest improvement we can make to the capacity of this city in a very short space of time".
EcoTransit is concerned at the slow pace of the rollout of the Digital Systems Program and urges the NSW Government to fast track this project for Sydney Trains including lines without a direct connection to Central.
