Fight Food Insecurity and Support Maryland Farmers

The Food Donation Pilot Program was originally established in 2017 thanks to the advocacy of Fair Farms consumers and farmers like you. This initial iteration of the program gave farmers in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s counties a tax credit, up to $5,000 per farm, for food that is donated to eligible food pantries. Due to increased interest in the program, the program expanded throughout Maryland in 2019. However, it is set to expire at the close of 2021.

House Bill 752 and Senate Bill 539, sponsored by Del. Ebersole and Sen. Guzzone, would extend the Food Donation Program so that the program can continue to operate and allow farmers to receive credit when donating to certified food banks and food pantries. This important program not only values farmers, but also ensures that food-insecure Marylanders have access to fresh, locally-grown food.
