Indonesia has occupied West Papua since 1962. Hundreds of thousands of West Papuans have been killed, raped, kidnapped, or tortured by the Indonesian government in the last 60 years. They have been systematically denied human rights by a colonial occupation government that seeks to seize their land and exploit their resources. Freedom of speech, equality under the law, and due process have all been eradicated so the occupation can continue to extract resources from the land. This has led to river systems being poisoned by mines operated by British and American companies. All of this stems from the fundamental lack of self determination afforded to West Papuans in deciding how their home will be managed.
