Gov. Lamont: Don't Veto the Futures of Students with Special Needs

Governor Ned Lamont is threatening a veto of the additional $40 million in special education funding for regional and local public schools that the legislature recently approved.

Many of the districts where our members teach and support students are already facing budget shortfalls this fiscal year. All but certain federal education funding cuts being pushed by majorities in the new Congress and the new administration in the White House threaten an even more dire future.

Due to the fiscal roadblocks to progress adopted by the General Assembly five years ago, state resources for public schools have been reduced, when adjusted for inflation.

Email the governor and tell him why he should not veto these vital special education funds. While it won’t be nearly enough for many of our schools, every dollar helps stave off drastic cuts to regional and local district budgets.

It is unconscionable with billions in surplus that the governor would ask our children and their families to suffer needlessly.
