Gov. Newsom: Support CSU Workers and Sign AB 1818!

AB 1818, sponsored by Teamsters Local 2010 and introduced by labor ally Asm. Liz Ortega, is our Teamsters bill to close the legal loophole that CSU used in 2025 to unilaterally re-open bargaining on our Unit 6 Teamsters contract and deny Skilled Trades workers the contractual raises the CSU agreed to in our Teamsters contract. It’s a commonsense bill that passed the California Legislature with bipartisan support. Now, we need Governor Newsom's signature to make this bill law!

Take action to win fair treatment for workers by sending a letter to the Governor asking for his signature on AB 1818. AB 1818 restores fairness, accountability, and balance to the bargaining process by preventing CSU from unilaterally cancelling contracts and reopening bargaining agreements with workers — even after agreements have been negotiated in good faith. Under AB 1818, a neutral third-party expert — the California Department of Finance — would be required to provide written verification of a legitimate budget shortfall before bargaining could be reopened. Workers and management would operate under a more transparent and balanced process that respects negotiated agreements.

Collective Bargaining Agreements must be binding on the CSU. Tell Gov. Newsom that workers deserve stability, predictability, and good-faith commitments from public institutions!
