Hands Off DC: DC needs national action on gun safety — not local interference
This week the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance will hold a hearing about gun violence in DC. We expect this hearing will be yet another attempt to interfere in DC's local laws without any consent or participation from the residents of the District of Columbia.
If Congress cares about gun violence in DC, they should pass national gun safety legislation — not interfere in DC's local governance. Congress’s ongoing refusal to pass common sense gun safety legislation is the single largest reason that DC and communities all over the country are experiencing our epidemic of gun violence. To make DC safer for all of us, Congress needs to take action on interstate gun trafficking and ghost guns — everything else is hypocrisy and distraction.
