HB625 will soon be up for a vote in the Full House.

Community Schools

Please urge all Delegates to vote to establish the Office of Community Schools.

Especially in vulnerable communities, helping children achieve academic success can require an expanded focus on the "whole child."

Community schools are public schools that coordinate with other community resources to offer an integrated focus on academics, health and wellness, social services, and youth and community development, resulting in improved student learning. And because they are open to all members of the community, even after standard school hours, they can become centers of the community and contribute to stronger families and healthier communities.

This bill would create an Office of Community Schools within the Virginia Department of Education that would prioritize funding initiatives and grant programs to enable the expansion of community schools in Virginia.
