Help Urge Accurate Water Affordability Criteria for New Jersey Residents!

In his encyclical Laudato Si', Pope Francis emphasizes that we must prioritize the needs of those who are most affected by environmental crises, ensuring that their dignity and basic rights are protected. Yet, the basic right to water is being threatened in New Jersey by measures that would make water unaffordable to some of our most vulnerable people.
Through the adoption of a more inclusive and comprehensive measure of affordability, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) could align its policies with the principles of care for the marginalized and protection of human dignity. The current reliance on unemployment rates alone does not fully capture the extent of water affordability issues. Advocating for this change ensures that the most marginalized populations have access to clean water and the resources needed to maintain it, helping create a more just and equitable system.
By sending this letter, your voice will emphasize the need for NJDEP to adopt a more comprehensive approach to measuring water affordability. Your voice makes a difference!
