Invest in our schools. Every. Single. Year.

In 2025, the Alaska legislature voted to override Governor Dunleavy's education funding veto - twice. The Base Student Allocation (BSA) increase was long overdue, but it is not enough to make up for 15 years of shrinking school funding relative to inflation.

Simply put, the amount of money the state has budgeted for schools has stayed about the same while the cost of doing business has gone up. You know this; think about how your groceries, gas, and healthcare bills have changed in recent years. Just to keep up with inflation since last year, the our schools would need a BSA increase of $180. To restore the buying power schools had in 2011, we would need to increase the Base Student Allocation (BSA) by $1400.

A new bill was just introduced - HB 374 which would increase the Base Student Allocation. You can read the bill text and see upcoming hearings here. Please encourage your legislators to support this bill and to keep investing in our schools! Alaska's future is worth it
