It’s time for new leadership on DC’s Housing Committee

In October 2022, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) published a scathing report on safety concerns and mismanagement at DC Housing Authority, failures which significantly harm thousands of DC residents. This was far from the first time public housing residents and advocates have flagged these issues and the report arrived at a time when DC has experienced years of rent increases that outpace wages or inflation, and when our housing affordability crisis is at record-setting levels. The DC Council’s Committee on Housing and Executive Administration, which is supposed to oversee all of these issues, has failed to take any meaningful action.

It is time for new leadership on DC’s Housing Committee. Between now and the end of December, the DC Council will select new committee heads for the upcoming term. These committees will be voted on at the first meeting of the new Council session in January.

As DC residents we call on the Council to select new leadership for the committee responsible for housing oversight. Use the form below to send a letter to all 13 council members. Feel free to add in your name, your ward, and why the housing crisis is personal to you.
