On April 8, 2024, 17-year-old Riley Doggett was on foot when he was run over by a Kent County Sheriff's vehicle, driven by Deputy Josiah McMains. Though he was hospitalized the same day, on May 9, 2024, Riley's family was forced to say good-bye forever as Riley died.

On May 28, 2024, Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker announced that he would not be seeking charges against Deputy McMains, leaving too many questions unanswered by Riley's family and our wider community. Riley was an unarmed minor and on foot when Deputy McMains used the deadly force of a vehicle that weighed over 2 tons against him.

This is why we are asking for the community to write emails to the State of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Governor Gretchen Whitmer to open an investigation into Riley's murder, and to press charges against Deputy Josiah McMains.

From Riley's obituary:
"Riley was a loving and very loyal son, brother, and friend. Riley's love was unconditional and what he would do for the ones he loved had no limits. Riley loved to dance, play sports and play the game with his little sister and friends. Riley loved being with his friends and his family, especially his older brother and his nephews. Riley was someone you could call anytime you needed help, whether it was to mow the lawn, sit in silence with you or crack jokes all day to ease your mind and make you laugh. One thing about Riley was he loved his family with his whole heart; his family was his soft spot."
