Lift the ban! Let Brook teach!!

On May 15, 2025, our colleague Dr. Brook Haley was arrested while attending and preparing to speak at a Palestine solidarity rally. He was protesting the increasing suppression of speech on campus, including heightened surveillance and police presence. Before he could speak, he was pulled from the crowd, surprised by being charged with felony vandalism, and held overnight in jail.
Though we believe Brook will be fully vindicated in court and through any disciplinary process made available, the Chancellor has acted with executive impunity by imposing a two-week campus ban. The ban comes right at the end of the quarter, when Brook's students need him the most.
At a moment when rights to free expression are under assault, the campus community looks to its leadership for integrity, and a principled defense of due process. This decision not only disregards Brook’s due process rights—it punishes his students, who rely on him during finals.
There is no formal appeal process available. That’s why we’re asking you to speak out.
Tell the Chancellor: Lift the ban. Let Brook teach.
