Opposing the "Recovery First Policy" Ordinance
DSA SF is joining a number of other coalition partners to oppose Supervisor Matt Dorsey’s “Recovery First Policy.” Along with Mayor Lurie’s ongoing attacks on harm reduction services and policing-led response to the opioid crisis in our city, we need to take a stand for real, evidence based solutions. To save lives, our city’s policies should be designed to offer a range of treatment and program options that meet people where they are in their recovery journey. Restricting access based on a narrow definition of “recovery” could lead to fewer people receiving the help they need.
In opposing the ordinance, we also want to take this opportunity to push for real, radical solutions to the opioid crisis, including true treatment on demand and safe consumption sites.
