When more than 59,000 NC state employees returned from their Labor Day weekend, they were eligible to welcome a new child to their family with up to eight weeks of fully paid parental leave, thanks to an Executive Order issued by Gov. Roy Cooper in May that went into effect on Sunday, September 1.

This new policy will be a game changer for many families. It’s also an important step on the road to ensuring that all working families in North Carolina have access to the paid family and medical leave they need to cover the range of caregiving and self-care needs they are likely to face during their working years.
