Mexican gray wolves–or lobos–are one of the most endangered
species in the United States. Fewer than 200 remain in the wildlands of
Arizona and New Mexico today.
The primary threat to lobos is illegal killing. Seventy percent of lobo deaths are human-caused. An environment of non-enforcement and non-prosecution has led to this. Enforcing the Endangered Species Act and preventing situations where individuals confuse lobos with coyotes and kill them must be a key component of the USFWS’s recovery plan.
Please submit your public comment today asking the USFWS to do more to prevent illegal killings of lobos.
