Protect Poultry Shops & Religious Rights

New York lawmakers are trying to pass bills A10399/S08291 which shutdown all live poultry shops in the state for at least 1 year. This is all being done under the guise of "public health" as lawmakers attempt to capitalize on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The impact on immigrant and religious communities will be devastating. Businesses will be lost, employees will be fired, families will struggle to put food on the table, and Muslims and Jews will struggle to find Halal and Kosher options to meet their religious practices. This bill will also prevent Muslims from performing their religious mandate of making a livestock sacrifice for Eid al-Adha in honor of Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command.

The reality is that live poultry shops are heavily regulated businesses that are subject to local, state, and federal regulations. These shops are regularly tested and monitored and are subject to fines and can be shutdown if they fail to maintain proper sanitary conditions. Live poultry shops have existed for over a century and are a vital source of income and food for thousand of families.

Tell your legislators to oppose this bill. We need to protect poultry shops and religious rights.
