Protect Puget Sound Funding

The Trump administration is proposing to cut EPA funding for Puget Sound, the second largest estuary in the United States, by 93 percent from $28 million to $2 million.
EPA funding for Puget Sound through the National Estuary Program supports a number of local and regional efforts to support the restoration and clean up of Puget Sound and the surrounding watershed. Much of the money received by EPA is distributed to state, regional, and tribal agencies, to carry out these efforts. The funding supports an incredibly wide range of efforts to protect, restore and clean up Puget Sound. Efforts include funding for salmon recovery, habitat restoration and protection, monitoring and science to help with management and decision-making, reduce storm water pollution, restore and protect shellfish beds, research, outreach and education and a wide variety of other activities.
