Reinstate Rockstar Toronto workers now!
On October 30th, three Rockstar Toronto employees were fired with immediate effect and without investigation. They were swept up in a brazen and ruthless union busting effort to terminate over 30 workers who are part of a union organizing effort in the UK.
The Canadian workers were discussing workplace issues and the process of unionizing with their UK colleagues. This should be a protected activity under the Labour Relations Act in Ontario. They were fired unjustly and should be immediately reinstated.
These employees have lost not only their livelihoods but crucial medical healthcare that was provided as part of their employment package.
These workers were seeking fair pay, better working conditions, and job security – all reasonable demands in an industry known for precarious contracts and a "crunch" culture of excessive overtime. To be fired for discussing and pursuing these aims is unacceptable and sets a dangerous precedent for the treatment of workers across the Canadian tech and creative sectors.
This situation is made even more alarming when we consider that Rockstar Games is a major beneficiary of various government tax credits.
This cannot be allowed to happen at Rockstar. Games are nothing without those who make them.
Please send a letter to the Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, David Piccini, and the local MPP, Stephen Crawford, urging them to take action to protect workers rights and to get these workers immediately reinstated.
