Support HB41 - the Delaware Digital Right to Repair Act

Immediate action is needed!
HB41, the Delaware Digital Right to Repair Act, has been introduced in the Delaware House! Please ask your Delaware legislators to support it.
Why is this important?
Some companies that make electronic products, such as smart phones or electronic games, make those products in such a way that they cannot be repaired by a consumer or a local repair shop. This is done on purpose so that customers are more likely to buy a new device rather than repair the one they have. This practice hurts local businesses and increases costs for consumers.
The practice also contributes to electronic waste. E-waste contains toxic substances and heavy metals. Materials such as chromium, lead, cadmium and mercury can leach into the soil, water and air, causing environmental damage and health issues in both humans and wildlife. The US EPA estimates that about 60 million tons of e-waste is generated per year globally.
When passed, The Delaware Digital Right to Repair Act will require manufacturers to make replacement parts, documentation, tools, and updates available on fair and reasonable terms. We should pass the Right to Repair law to give every consumer and every small business access to the parts, tools, and service information they need.
Similar laws are now in place in other states. We need this here in Delaware!
