Nassau Community College needs stable, competent leadership devoted to building, not reducing, the college. Administrative policies like early class cancellation; skeleton scheduling; the abolishment of 15 academic departments; failure to hire full-time faculty ---- including in financial aid, advisement, counseling, labs and help centers; proposed elimination of theater and dance; lack of support for ESL, developmental education, the Honors program, and special needs students; the abandonment of cultural programming; and lack of support for student clubs are hurting programs and student services. Around the country enrollment is up, but at NCC, increases are lower due to these policies.
At the same time as these draconian cuts, the number of administrators has doubled in the past year to 62 administrators, with more on the way, and chief administrative officer Maria Conzatti is paid more highly than any SUNY community college president.
Please send a letter! It will be sent to Nassau County elected officials, New York State Senators and Assemblymembers for Nassau, the SUNY Chancellor, and SUNY Board of Trustees.
