Shut down City of San Diego Flock ALPR

SDPD is watching you. Without your consent.

Peter Thiel and his billionaire allies, with the Trump administration, have declared war on immigrants, workers, people seeking reproductive or gender-affirming care, and people exercising their constitutional right to dissent, including those who oppose fascism.

Peter Thiel's Founders Fund invested in Flock Safety, the company whose automated license plate readers (ALPR) the City of San Diego pays $2 million a year for, that tracks and stores our cars' pathways. Flock has admitted it will turn our data over to federal officials if presented with a court order. In fact, Flock and SDPD already has turned over City of San Diego data to DHS and ICE, breaking state and local law, violating our sanctuary status. Flock has repeatedly failed to deliver on its promise of "protection without compromising privacy" in cities across the country, including ours, and concerns remain with the current system in place.

That's why workers represented by the San Diego Imperial Labor Council, California Nurses Association, AFT Guild 1931, UC AFT, UAW 4811, and UC San Diego Faculty Association have all joined over thirty community organizations and 2000 San Diegans calling to shut down these license plate readers entirely.

Will our elected Democrat officials listen to us and remove a tool that will surely be used to support fascism? We hope so. Our democracy and our immigrant neighbors, and ultimately all of our safety, are on the line.
