STOP H.R. 2616 & S. 4925 - BOOK BANS THAT ERASE TRANS AND NB KIDS

H.R. 2616, which recently passed the House of Representatives with the help of 8 Democrats (including Louisiana's own Cleo Fields), would prohibit federally funded schools from teaching what it calls “gender ideology” and could pressure educators to disclose a student's transgender identity to parents—even when doing so could place that young person at risk. Meanwhile, S. 4925, the Senate companion to H.R. 7661, similarly threatens LGBTQ+ communities and history through expanding efforts to restrict what young people can learn and read by banning any discussion of "gender dysphoria or transgenderism."
The consequences extend beyond the classroom. We know from examples around the country that policies targeting gender identity create a chilling effect that fuels censorship and book bans. Every young person deserves to see themselves reflected in books, learn accurate information about the world around them, and attend schools where they are safe, respected, and free to be who they are.
H.R. 2616 now faces the Senate, while S. 4925 remains under consideration in committee. Signing our letter campaign sends a clear message to Senators Kennedy and Cassidy: Louisiana should not support legislation that fuels censorship and erasure.
