STOP TARRANT COUNTY FROM REMOVING COLLEGE CAMPUSES AS EARLY VOTING SITES

PROTECT EARLY VOTING ON TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE CAMPUSES! Stop the Commissioner's Court from removing college campuses as valid early voting sites!

On September 4th, the Tarrant County Commissioner's Court, by a 2-2 vote, failed the proposed Early Voting Locations list which included nine university and community college campuses. County Judge Tim O'Hare and Commissioner Gary Fickes from Precinct 3 voted against the list, while Commissioner Manny Ramirez from Precinct 4 was absent for the vote. Tim O'Hare is on record saying, "The sites on college campuses favor one group," adding that the court’s role is not to get college students to vote.

While Tim O'Hare, Gary Fickes, and Manny Ramirez may say their actions have nothing to do with suppressing the vote of college students, we see right through their lies. The reality is that they are afraid of the voting power of young people! Data shows that, in 2020, 10% of Tarrant County voters who cast their ballot early in the Presidential Election voted on a college campus. That's about 66,000 people who exercised their right to vote thanks to easy access to voting locations. Now, Tim O'Hare, Gary Fickes, and Manny Ramirez threaten to silence those thousands of voices by pushing to remove college campuses from the list of Early Voting Locations.

Now, the Commissioner's Court is planning on voting on the Early Voting Locations list again on September 12th, this Thursday. This time, they are putting forth proposals that include a reduction in the amount of college campuses that can serve as valid early voting sites. This is unacceptable! We must stand together and FIGHT BACK AGAINST THEIR ATTEMPTS AT VOTER SUPPRESSION! We must demand that the Commissioner's Court do their job and ensure that EVERYONE in Tarrant County, including COLLEGE STUDENTS, has easy access to voting.

Add your voice to this campaign letter and be ready to take action. Together, we can ensure that Tarrant County college campuses remain a viable place for people to vote and make their voices heard!
