Demand HUD Protect Public Housing Land!

The "ABLA" public housing complex was once home to more than 17,000 Chicagoans. After the city announced their "Plan For Transformation", promising new quality housing for residents, their communities were almost entirely demolished. There are now only around 2,000 residents left. The thousands who have been left displaced were promised a "Right To Return" to newly built homes. Now, Mayor Lori Lightfoot is offering the land to a major donor, billionaire Joe Mansueto, owner of the Chicago Fire Soccer team to build a new training facility. More than 23 acres of public land meant to house the poor is being given to a billionaire. We can't stand for this!

Together we have the power to stop it. We must let Jane Hornstein, the Director of Special Applications at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) know the community stands against this shameful land grab. We need HUD to fulfill their duties to build housing for those who need it! Use this pre-written letter to urge HUD to deny the application for this proposal. You can also customize the letter to add a personal touch before you send it. Feel free to talk about how this issue is important to you. This letter will also go to the federal elected officials who can advocate to HUD to stand on the right side of this issue.
