Stop the Layoffs at UC San Diego Library!
UC San Diego has issued layoff notices to 27 critical library workers and we need your help to fight back! Library staff make the work of students, faculty, and researchers possible, and enable the groundbreaking research on which UCSD’s reputation depends.
Library staff are the first point of contact for everyone seeking resources, research help, or academic support on campus. We provide information access to all, backed up by decades of collective experience and commitment to UCSD’s mission. We are Library Assistants, Blank Assistants, Facility Management Specialists, Library Professionals, Administrative Officers, and Financial Analysts, and our work is essential to UCSD’s basic operations!
The layoff notices issued to Library staff on June 16 jeopardize not just our jobs but the work of our community and the reputation of our University. On top of the budget cuts already enacted in recent years that have slashed Library hours and services, we need to fight back against these layoffs NOW!
Take a minute to sign your name to our letter campaign, demanding that UCSD leadership stop the layoffs and work together with campus stakeholders to explore alternatives—because the Library’s vital services cannot be maintained without the staff who provide them!
