Stop War On Children

TELL CONGRESS TO STOP THE WAR ON CHILDREN

Tell your Senators and Representative: “No or not enough help for our kids in any budget / appropriations bill should mean you will vote NO on that legislation: especially the GOP Tax Scam!”

Act now. Millions of lives depend on it.

Here at Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), we’re sickened by the ongoing right wing Trumpublicans’ War on Children. The self-proclaimed “family values” party has waged a non-stop assault on America’s children including attacking their healthcare, slashing their education opportunities, depriving them of needed hurricane relief, and threatening to deport them!

On September 5, Trump tweeted his intention to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that allows undocumented young people brought to the U.S. as children—some 800,000—to pursue education and careers.

On September 20, Category 4 Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, home to 3.4 million American citizens, of which more than 737,000 are 18 or younger. Power outages occur daily, and virtually no public schools have reopened. More than half of Puerto Rican children under 5 years of age lived below the poverty level BEFORE Hurricane Maria.

On September 30, the Republican-controlled Congress allowed the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), providing health insurance for 9 million low-income kids and 600,000 pregnant women, to expire.

How has Trump led on these issues? He’s taken us in the wrong direction. He insulted the widow of a soldier killed in the line of duty, and he has picked fights with members of Congress and African-American athletes. He’s threatened wars and exacerbated conflicts. Now, he’s pushing a tax scam that will hurt families making less than $100,000, increase the deficit by $1.5 trillion, and slash essential social services to fund massive giveaways for his corporate and billionaire cronies. He even endorsed Roy Moore, an accused pedophile for the U.S. Senate, who thankfully lost.

We demand that Congress renew CHIP funding, pass a clean DREAM Act, and give Puerto Rico sufficient funding and support to recover from Hurricane Maria as part of appropriations needed to fund the government beyond December 8. Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have introduced a $146 billion plan for Puerto Rico's recovery. Please urge your Senators to support it.

It’s as simple as this. Unless the Congressional Republicans remove the disgusting provisions that attack children; and unless they include all necessary help for children in their budget, your Senators and Representative should vote against it.
