Support Cars to Casas at the Board of Supervisors!
While San Francisco is experiencing a housing shortage and affordability crisis of epic proportions, our streets are jammed with too many cars polluting the air. More homes and fewer cars are an obvious solution, but there are currently too many hurdles in place to build new homes in place of parking lots and other car-centric sites.
That’s why Mayor Breed introduced her "Cars to Casas" bill to make it faster and easier for those working to convert "auto-oriented" lots (parking lots, garages, vehicle storage, car washes, etc.) into homes. It eliminates a layer of process that would shave "10 to 18 months" off of approval time and relax limits on the number of homes on each lot so that more homes that are more affordable could be built. It also provides that in exclusionary neighborhoods zoned only for single-family homes, parking lots and garages could be converted into 4-plexes without additional approval.
Cars to Casas will be up at the Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation Committee on Monday, June 13th and needs your support! Send a letter to show your support for this small but important step toward alleviating our housing shortage, reducing harmful car emissions, and building our city for people - not cars.
