Support Montgomery's Strong Forest Protection Bill

“For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver.”

- Martin Luther King Jr.

The Montgomery County Council has introduced legislation (Bill 25-22) to significantly strengthen the county’s Forest Conservation Law, which hasn’t been updated in some time while Montgomery County lost 4000 acres of forest in the last decade. A stronger law will safeguard local forests as a cost effective tool for human and ecosystem health. The last Council was not able to take up this legislation before the end of the session. This new expanded Council has the potential to enact strong protections for forests as one of their first actions.

MCA has been proud to work with the MoCo Forest Coalition to ensure that this updated law is as strong as oak - particularly when it comes to protecting existing forests.

The Council will vote on this bill on March 21.  We support the bill's strong protections - can you reach out one more time to support this strengthened legislation? Click "start writing" to send the Council a message.

It's said the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the time to strengthen forest protection in Montgomery County is now.

Thank you for taking action for forests! Much more background here.
